“She is one whose heart keeps pace with her foot. She is entirely present; her soul is where her body is, and her body where her soul is, and her soul where her soles are.”

– Junayd

In today’s burning world, many of us are coming together to envision change, and to co-create a future that is sustainable for all of the Earth community. The sacred feminine as the ground of being and the hidden soul of the world calls to us to see her all around us and become her in our very cells so we can enter into a harmonious relationship with all of Her creation: our precious planet Gaia and all her creatures, each other, ourselves, and our bodies.

In this immersion, you will come alive to the existence of the sacred feminine as real, find Her presence in yourself, as you find yours in Her, feeling Her rise within you, opening you to the sacredness of all life, in your body, heart, mind and soul.

What representations, images and qualities of the sacred feminine inspire you and wants to be known through you?

Each week we will focus on one of the Chakras and one or more representations of the sacred feminine from different traditions that correspond to that particular Chakra. By opening your Chakras one by one and embodying the frequency and resonance of the sacred feminine that correspond to each Chakra, you will be initiated into the mysteries of the sacred feminine, create a loving conscious awareness in your body and enter into the embodied fullness of feminine glory.

We will begin with the root Chakra and move our way up through guided dance and movement that correspond to the Chakra in focus; free-style dance, meditation and optional participation in sharing circles. We will do short sequences drawn from: Persian classical and mystical dance, Flamenco, Middle Eastern tribal dances, Sama (whirling), and Tai Chi. Join our loving dance community from your own sanctuary, liberate your body and step into your unlimited self, emanating love toward yourself, the Earth and all beings.

Guided by the poetry of Rumi, Rabia, Kabir and other Sufi mystics as well as Taoist philosophy and divine feminine wisdom, cultivate presence, mastery and sensual grace in your body through dancing with a focus on the Chakras, the Meridian system, and quantum physics. Integrate your body, heart, mind and soul in a sacred union and learn tools for self-healing, and extending love and healing into the world.

Tune into the wisdom of your body and dance the miracle that you are, this gift of life! In the uncertain times we live in, sacred dance is the way to a dynamic, joyous and energetic way of being that grounds us in the present moment and opens our heart and mind to wonder and possibility, so we can usher in a NEW paradigm of being in harmony with the greater Earth community.

Creation, Destruction, I am dancing them both!
– Jalaledin Rumi

With all the stress and devastation that is impacting all of us collectively and individually, why dance?

Because the key is how we respond. Dance gives us the capacity to witness the sorrow, the pain and the injustice with compassion and open ourselves to joy, beauty, goodness and truth, holding both the devastation and the deliverance.

Dance the pain and the grief. Dance the joy of simply being. Dance to get real, and dance to fly after you get real because first we need to learn how to embrace, then we can fly: embrace ourselves, embrace others, embrace what is, remembering the goodness, beauty and truth that is in you, in others and in the world, and expanding that knowing.

If you ponder deeply, you will see that only dance allows us to truly experience the interconnectedness of the universe in our flesh and bones, and no other practice might be as powerful a conduit for accessing and experiencing the sacred directly. Dance gives us an immediate visceral experience of the miracle of being alive. No wonder, that our great ancestors created rituals to consecrate this awareness. They danced the cosmic mysteries around their campfires. They understood that the body in dance was a direct way to igniting a connection with the One. When our ancestors accompanied dance with music and drama, human spirituality was given its first expression.

Activate the power of the dance to ground yourself in PEACE and become PASSIONATELY ALIVE and LOVING so together we can usher in a NEW story in harmony. The time is NOW to surrender to the unknown and dance to liberate your body and experience the living fiery passion in your heart, your creative center. Explore the secrets of dance technique and philosophy to embody yourself, upgrade your dance and movement ability and your health, and learn to apply these secrets to your day to day life so you can dance your life with joy and freedom and extend this joyous freedom to others. Join our community of like-hearted wild and noble people and discover dance and movement as prayer, meditation and vehicle for manifestation that can heal, and lovingly influence consciousness and the environment.

The aim of Dance of Oneness is to help you integrate yourself and unify the myriad of fragments within you into coherence. Each of the different styles of dance and movement that inform Dance of Oneness contribute to this wholeness. In these sessions, Banafsheh will incorporate the curriculum from the Dance of Oneness: a fusion of Flamenco, classical and contemporary Persian Dance, Middle Eastern Tribal Dances, Sama (whirling) and Tai Chi, moving with the awareness of the Chakras and the meridians or pathways of energy in the body. She will weave in wisdom teachings from the East and the West including the mystical poetry of Rumi, Rabia, Hafez, Kabir, Khayyam, and others, as well as discoveries from Quantum Physics and Neuroscience (for lay people) that echo mystical teachings in the contemporary language of science.

This Immersion is a foundational Dance of Oneness course and fulfills 13 hours in the 200-hr Dance of Oneness Certification Program.

In this disorienting time, when it would be easy to contract into fear, Banafsheh (and her dance of love and love of dance) has helped me to stay grounded and open. Embracing the beauty of being alive and embodied while holding the suffering of the moment. I am very grateful to have this compassion practice in my life.

Banafsheh’s words and then the opportunity for movement is extremely powerful and important and she combines them brilliantly. I know after doing this work that it is like peeling an onion once again revisiting what you think is resolved. I just do have to marvel at the workings of the Beloved and the persistence! Thank you for being such a beautiful instrument for me as this clearing process continues to unfold so the flute can play.

The Rose has long been the symbol of divine wisdom and the Chartres cathedral with its 3 sublime rose windows is a hymn to Mary as the throne of wisdom. Chartres Cathedral was built as a temple for the Queen of Heaven. This final rebuilding was dedicated to the risen Mary as her dwelling place on Earth. It is also a grail, the container of mysteries.

From ancient times, the rose has been associated with the great goddesses of the ancient world. The Rose is one of the oldest symbols of the wisdom tradition and of the divine wisdom and holy spirit radiating love to our world from the divine ground. The Rose came to symbolize not only the holy spirit but the awakened soul reunited with the divine ground. Mary was known in the middle ages at the time of the building of Chartres Cathedral as the Rosa Mystica. The rose represents the radiant presence of the holy spirit who fills the whole cathedral.

Mary as the divine feminine is the rose, the lily and also the tree of life from which all who turn to her can draw sustenance, an image that evokes the Shekinah and even older as Isis as the tree of life giving sustenance. Wherever the association is made between love and divinity, between beauty and harmony and divinity, between compassion and divinity, there stands the image of Mary as representing the qualities of the divine feminine.

This intensive is centered around the Feast of the Assumption of Mary (August 15) which honors the Church doctrine, enunciated by the Pope in 1950, that Mary was assumed directly into heaven upon her death and now presides as the Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven, a title held by Goddesses, Isis and Inanna. The much needed resurgence of the feminine archetype and the restoration and recovery of the feminine aspect of the divine in order to bring back wholeness and balance to the human psyche is the key to understanding the Feast of the Assumption which Carl Jung believed marked the most important development in Christian theology in the last 2000 years.

The Black Madonna

On the Day of the Assumption, a statue of the Black Madonna is carried through the streets of Chartres before being placed in front of the statue of the Assumption of Mary, where she is kept for one week and then hidden away till the following year.

Parading the Black Madonna recalls the way the Druids in ancient times brought her out of the grotto underneath the granite promontory upon which the cathedral today stands. They honored Mother Earth and the cycles of the seasons through the Black Madonna. The dark feminine in all her aspects has been revered since ancient times. The Black Madonna has historically been present during times of turbulence and upheaval when a culture or civilization is dying and something profound and redemptive is being born. The metamorphosis from the old to the new is uniquely the domain of the Black Madonna, which is why she is so actively present in our lives today. A profound aspect of the Black Madonna is the manner in which she challenges our understanding of what it means to be feminine.

Mary Magdalene

Mary of Magda is the other Mary of Chartres. As a powerful wisdom keeper, there is a hidden alliance between her and the Black Madonna. We will explore her sacred lineage and her teachings, contemplate images and statues of her in the cathedral.

The Program

This program is primarily experiential and designed as an initiation into the Way of the Rose. Our intention is to heed the call of the Divine Feminine to see her around us and become her in our very cells so we can live in harmony with each other and with the Earth and all of the Earth community. We will integrate head, heart and body through wisdom teachings, song, dance and theater, and immersion in the imagery of the cathedral.

The week will be a balance of:
Wisdom teachings presentations on the Assumption; Mother Mary as the incarnation of the Divine Feminine; the Black Madonna; the lineage and teachings of Mary Magdalene; the sacred symbol of the Rose, and the Chartres Cathedral as a grail and container of mysteries.

Embodiment practices that bring us into heart presence and open a door for us to become the wisdom teachings we explore through embodiment, sacred dance and  theater, and sharing circles.

A virtual journey in the Chartres Cathedral – consisting of an in-depth exploration of the references to Mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, the Assumption, the Black Madonna and the crypt, the labyrinth and the rose windows.

Dance of Oneness takes me back to my womb, which surprisingly gives me the feeling of tenderness that I have long denied. Finding it, accepting is so refreshing. It fills me. It gives me confidence to be me, the me I want to share with the whole world.

Banafsheh’s Dance of Oneness retreat in Turkey is a healing immersion into the beauty and majesty of the Divine Feminine. Being with this amazing group of women in the sacred land of Turkey is not to be missed. Soaking in the thermal waters, whirling in the Sufi Temple, laughing, loving, being…I could keep returning here with Banafsheh for the rest of my life!
